Holy Shmoley Guacamole

It's been a minute...

I haven't updated because our life has been so "Spur of the Moment" (pun intended) that I have hardly had time to work and breathe, much less update. So here I am now...updating :)

First of all, my aunt Michelle makes a good point. I need to 'splain how this baseball thing works seeing as how most of the people that read this blog don't really know.

For every major league baseball team-those being the "big" teams you see playing on TV. i.e.: the Atlanta Braves-there are 4 or 5 minor league level teams underneath them. They are (in subsequent order) 1)Rookie ball 2)Class A 3)Double A and 4)Triple A. Some teams, such as the Atlanta Braves, choose to separate the 'Class A' level into two teams-'Low A' and 'High A'- therefore bringing the minor league teams to a count of 5. The idea is that as you move up through the minor league levels the competition becomes progressively tougher, therefore, preparing these players for the major leagues. Although there are some players who are drafted or signed and go straight to the majors, they are the exception to the rule. The majority of the guys spend a little to a lot of time in the minor leagues. Some guys have spent 1 year in the minors before moving to the big league club, and some have spent 12. It varies.

Now, there are way too many more rules, waivers, Rule 5 drafts, fall leagues, rosters, etc. for me to explain here but for the purpose of this post, the above explanation should suffice.

To clarify, Tim was drafted by the Atlanta Braves after his Junior season at Georgia Tech. After having surgery in '07 he spent last year's season moving up through the minor leagues ...again... and eventually ending the season as a starting pitcher in Double A-which, for the Braves, is located in Pearl, MS. So in my last post I said that Tim had made the Triple A-Gwinnett roster. This just means that coming out of Spring Training (a sort of "practice" for both major league players and minor leaguers that is held before the season), Tim was put on the Triple A roster and the Braves' Triple A team is based in Gwinnett County, GA. This was good news because 1)that is a level higher than where he ended last season, 2) it's only one level below his ultimate goal (just so we're clear, his ultimate goal is the big leagues...), and 3)we were already living in Gwinnett so it made everything easy peezy Japaneezy.

SO...

That brings us to today's update.

We got word that Tim made the Triple A roster on a Saturday, the second to last day of Spring Training, and players had to report to their teams the following Tuesday with the first games being Thursday. We left Orlando on Sunday and arrived in Gwinnett late that night. We spent the next couple of days getting settled, Tim practicing, looking at 345,984,098 apartments to live in, and playing with our child...or...umm...our dog Bleier (pronounced 'Bl-eye-ur' in case you were wondering...).

Thursday was opening night and the game went fantastically. They won and it looked like they had put together a great team and we went to bed that night dreaming of Turner Field and all that it encompasses (OK, well, I can't really say what Tim dreamt of that night but it sounded good...). Tim reported to the field the next afternoon and...

...got word that he was going back to Double A-Mississippi.

Huh? After one game that he didn't even pitch in?

Oh well...

That being the nature of the sport, we packed our bags, said goodbye to home, and headed out. Yes. That same day.

Gotta love the minor league baseball way of life. VAGABOND.

After driving for what seemed like for.ev.er, we got to Pearl, MS and settled in the hotel. At least it's a nice and comfortable hotel...

We repeat the 'settling in' process-learning the city, finding a place to live, blah blah blah.

SO, Tim left Tuesday for a 6 day road trip to West Tennessee and we found a place to live that same day. Whoo...big load of worry off of our shoulders seeing as how we were a little worried about being homeless and all. Now that we have all of that settled, I'm becoming content with MS. I am. Really...

OK, so maybe not COMPLETELY but I decided this morning that I would begin praying that God would work with me on being content no matter what my situation. As soon as I felt a peace about where we were in life, Tim texted me...

...he's back on the Gwinnett roster.

Holy cow.

I'm convinced it's because I've spent the past 7 years of my life asking-ok, make that begging-God to provide a way for me to travel and see the world. This is God's form of humor...

"Well Whitney, you asked for it. Have fun seeing all of the wonderful sights of Gwinnett County, GA and Pearl, MS. I'll even let you drive, as opposed to fly, back and forth so you get the fantastic experience of I-20 as well. Enjoy!"

I'll take it.

Anyways, that's what's been going on in our lives lately. We have no idea, and I mean abso-freaking-lutely no idea, what tomorrow may bring. All we can do is make the most of the opportunities given to us today and leave the rest to the One who wrote the story.

Keep us in your prayers and keep in touch! Love and thanks to you all!
